Proper fitting of the
earmold is critical to the success of behind-the-ear, eyeglass, and body-style
hearing aids.
Not only does the earmold help support these aids in the ear, but it directs sound
into the ear cavity. If an earmold does not fit properly, the user can experience
whistling, or feedback, that feedback that can irritate his ear. If a user notices
that feedback ceases when he presses on his earmold, the mold may well need adjusting.
Also, hearing aid users should not overlook the fact that the shape of the ear
may change, as a part of the aging process. If so, the earmold should be brought
in to the dispenser for a change or modification.
For people of all ages,
communication is a virtual part of our world today. Don't let the isolation of
a hearing impairment keep you on the outside looking in.
P.S. Excessive heat or
harsh chemicals may also effect an earmold, necessitating a change.
